When to go
November to February is the best time. The weather is cool and dry, with daytime temperatures between 25°C and 30°C — perfect for walking between the monuments. October and March are also good. April to June is hot and humid (35°C-40°C) — the stone surfaces get too hot to touch by midday. July to September is monsoon — the town receives moderate rain but the monuments look good against overcast skies. For surfing, the best swell season is November to March. The Mahabalipuram Dance Festival, held around December-January, features classical dance performances at the Shore Temple backdrop.
